Kinetic Sculpture

Three curved spine like structures rotate in place slowly, on a geared system. MDF gears and spines inner structure were CNC milled and assembled over a birch base. The spines are composed of a shell made of molded tracing paper mache layers and wood veneer scales in the bottom.

The sculpture breathes, as the spinning curved arms produce an inflating and deflating illusion. The materials chosen for the sculpture refer to the structure of walls, with wood structures covered in insulation and topped with paint. The sculpture becomes a living body through its mechanical movement, the growing mold and the wood veneers as they react to moisture change in the room.
