Exhibition in Quito Ecuador
Houses in Ecuador are in constant decline; infrastructure crumbles as neglect of our city takes hold. Our country's priorities shift in the face of the social and political crisis we are experiencing due to the effects of drug trafficking and violence, and we forget the importance of historical and ancestral spaces. This house is both our heritage and our burden; it is the ruins of the city; its remains.
The exhibition comprises a collection of 10 drawing collages and 5 photographs of spaces in Ecuador that have been abandoned, transformed, or forgotten. The transformations of these spaces are evidence of a political and social shift in Ecuador.
The works were shown in the renovated house of my great grandmother Carlota, in the historical district in Quito.
The drawing collages were made on rice letter paper found in the site 6 years prior to the exhibition, owned by the previous owner of the house, Carlota. The collages also include paint chips, dirt, molded paper and materials collected from the sites drawn.
